New Bookcases

I moved this year. I have set up several bookcases. There are 6 tall, 4 short, and two media cases. I also have two small tables.

The tall bookcases have five shelves and the short cases have three shelves. I have the shelves setup to take comic book boxes. Currently sitting mostly empty. I have comic book boxes on the bottom shelf. 2 boxes sit on the shelf sitting perpendicular.

The fourth short case holds my media and the two media cases has my non comic books and holds up the TV.
Video game stuff  like the Halo vehicle and WarCraft goes with the TV area.

3rd bookcase is facing out of the space. I may put non toy and non comic stuff on that one.

One of those tables is holding my fairy chess set and board.
A short for miscellaneous like Godzilla and Lego.
A short bookcase for DC.
Doctor Who is going to be on those shelves.

I am reserving a tall bookcase for Marvel.
A tall case for Star Wars.
That Star Wars case may end up holding my ECCC and SDCC books too.
That leaves 4 tall bookcases for GI Joe. That is not going to be enough space for my collection. I am not sure I have the space to add more cases. Those 7 tortilla boxes are going to fill up that space quickly.

Time to Open Tortilla Boxes

I made the decision last week to get some stuff out of my storage unit. I work a short day on Friday and have the weekend off. It took me until Sunday afternoon to leave my apartment. The empty bookcases called to me. I have a couple of things on the shelves but it is time to unbox some older stuff. These tortilla boxes dated May of 1994 have been unopened since I moved out of my mother's house. That was at the end of May in 1994. I put my toys into these taped up boxes and shuffled them between my mother's garage and my room at my father's apartment for years. Up until I moved to Seattle in October of 2001.

10.5" Heat Pressed Flour Tortillas boxes from Taco Bell

According to the label, I shipped this in September of 2001. That sounds right. The 18 of 18 may be off. I have 7 of these boxes left in my possession. Did there used to be 11 more? Or were there 18 total and 7 of them were the tortilla boxes? I do think there were more of these at one time. I moved some stuff into the blue totes. Other stuff may have been in different type of boxes. I may have the old labels still. The slips are probably in some box somewhere in storage. I have kept the weirdest things over the years.

The box waiting to be opened. Some of these boxes have labels and I should open up according to the label but I am just going to open at random.

I do have to say, I have not had my toys displayed since Loma Prieta https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Loma_Prieta_earthquake

in October of 1989. I was cleaning my room that month. My toys on this rickety white bookcase were out in the garage. I spent that quake on Marina Vista Soccer Field.  https://marinavista.mpusd.net/

Watching the grass wave was quite exciting to my 14 year old brain.
I do not think I ever put the toys back up on the wall in my bedroom.  I was a teenager. I was trying to grow up but growing up did not mean I got rid of my toys. The five years between the earthquake and getting kicked out of my mother's does not bring any recollections to my mind about my collection. I think I was buying stuff still but nothing stands out for where I was putting the toys.

There was one more blue tote in storage. Covered in greasy dust, I decided to throw it out.

But what was inside it? It was the remaining stuffed toys that I own.

I took them out of the bin and put them in the oven. AT a low heat, 170 degrees.

I own a lot of Gorillas. I am not sure where these are going right now.

I may do different posts for each box. OR just one post for the 7 boxes. I am not sure yet. It depends on how much writing I can get done.

Fuel Sports Bar Friday December 10, 2010

My friends were playing this bar tonight. I missed them performing but I did catch some of the next band.
100_5660100_5661I got to hang out with some of my friends and talked to some new people. And some people drove me home after the show.
Earlier in the day I rode the ferry out to Bremerton. I got a nice picture from the Sunset Ferry ride back to Seattle.

I came back to Seattle for a Union meeting. The Union meeting went on for ever. That is why I was late for the show at Fuel. I should have just left the meeting but I wanted to hear all the people that were going to speak.

Cell Phone #3

I managed to damage the glass on my cell phone today. The phone is still working so I do not have to get a replacement yet. I wonder how long it will be until I do need a new phone. 100_5566
Phone 1 – dropped it getting out of my truck on January 4
Phone 2 – in my pocket when I slipped off a sand bag into the ocean when I was  in Mexico
Phone 3 – in my left front pocket that hit the edge of a table at work
These were all the same models of phone.
The new Windows Phone 7 is coming out on the 8th of November. I have been thinking of getting one. This provides a nice excuse to get a new phone.

Suicidal Tendencies Day

Sunday morning with a hangover. Finally got out of the house in the quest for breakfast a little before 13:00. I tried to get a hold of Glen while Cat was visiting but they were out doing other stuff. I wanted to kill time before the Suicidal Tendencies show at Showbox Sodo in the evening. So I ended up taking a walk.

I was downtown so I got a Turkey and Swiss Croissant at Specialties. Then I went to the Central library to look up the South Park Library. I wanted to make sure I knew where the library was this time. I tried to find the branch a couple months ago but did not have any luck.
I found my way to the South Park Library around 17:00. 100_5523 100_5524 100_5525
Around the South Park neighborhood, there were several cool yards.100_5520 100_5521 100_5522 100_5526 100_5527 100_5528

I took that picture of the sunset  while I was waiting for a bus to take me back to the Showbox Sodo.
On the way back to the SoDo, I got caught by the 1st Avenue drawbridge. 100_5529 100_5530
I had not realized that in all my travels, I had not walked over the 1st Avenue bridge until today. I thought I had crossed all the major bridges in Seattle. Now that the 1st Avenue bridge has been walked over, what other bridge is there to cross? I guess there is the Mercer Island to Bellevue span plus the 520 but the 520 does not have pedestrian access.

Getting back to the Showbox SoDo, I bought my ticket for the show. Then I went over to Hooverville to drink before the doors opened. 100_5502
Hanging out at Hooverville made me think of the last time I was here. One of the best concerts I have ever attended started at Hooverville. Pretty sure the company made that concert.
Thinking about the company I had the last time made this evening tense. I can not think of a better word than tense for how thinking about the last time made me feel.
Good thing I was in a mosh pit later in the evening. That allowed me to get some aggravation out about my life. Not enough. I am not into hurting other people and that is a mosh pit to me. I want to hurt PEOPLE. When I finally allowed myself to relax and push back, I did start to feel better.
One guy in front of me got violent. He choked one guy and started hitting some other guy. Staff came in from behind me and started moving people. I decided to leave at that point. 20 minutes into Suicidal Tendencies but 3 hours inside the pit. I got two new shirts to replace my favorite shirt so all in all an okay concert.
On my way back to downtown I caught bus route 18. The nice woman driver who took me to the Central Saloon the night before picked me up. Got to downtown and rode a different bus up the hill.
I finished my night at the Summit Public House. Talked to some people I had not seen in a while.
All in all, I had a good day even if I was tired and sore.

Matthews Beach

On Friday, I went to a new beach to meet my friend Sheri. Matthews Beach has a nice lawn but the water is not as good as at Madison Beach. The aquatic weeds need some serious pruning. I guess it is the end of the season so that will wait until next year.

Scary spider in the Men’s room was spinning up some food.100_5417 100_5418

After the beach, we went to the Ravenna Alehouse. Couple beers and a chicken sandwich for myself. French dip for Sheri. I liked the food.
